West Ham – Weeekend for the boys only

Not the same kind of weekend as I fondly recall below – no this one is me taking my two boys over to Bolton for the game rather than drunken antics with the loon platoon from Market Street.
Anyway – now that I am grown up and have a bit more sense i take more of an interest in the game itself – not that I’ll ever be a statto but hey..too many braincells have passed under the bridge in the River Stella for me to recall the finer points.
So four nil – a good result and great value – glad I chose this game to come over for after all. The boys liked it as well but having said that Niall spent most of his first game looking round him – come on – we all did it. Some of us are still doing it now – you know who you are. Nathan had a good game as well – I mean at least no-one from the stand above threw a pie onto his seat this time!

European Adventures Over….. for now

So the big adventure is over….boy am I gutted.
Realistically we have done well considering it was our first time but having said that i honestly think we have been done and should have been going further. I refer to the shocking refereeing in the 1st leg against Marseilles. Yes I am firm believer that what goes around comes around and that decision sthat go against you are usually balanced out but in an important game with huge stakes that referee bottled it big time and made numerous mistakes. 2nd leg was faor enough we controlled first half and kept them quiet but after the og they came out a different team in 2nd half…..bollocks

Talking about Trips Away & A bit more of my history

So we drew Arsenal in the cup again – which reminds me of the time we stayed darn sarf to watch bwfc against the Arse. Of course _ i don’t remember much about the match – that’s not my thing, ask AJC if that’s what you’re after he’ll give you stats forever e.g. colour of the subs underpants, Bergkamp’s hairdresser etc etc.

However I can tell you about the gaff we stayed in – some tiny rooms attached to the back of a rather nice Italian restuarant although it did seem a bit dodgy when we strolled in at 1.30 in the morning and the local mafia were having a meal meet at the back of the place! This is the trip we went on one of our legendary all day benders and if i remember correctly I won prize for best all round ‘stayer’  After th egane we went into a boozer just down the road from Highbury and the Mayor of Bolton was sat on the next table also having a pint. Some of the Gooners thought this rather funny but we all had good humoured banter…

Trips Away & A bit more of my history

Unfortunately, when I was a season ticket holder and travelled to away games it was years ago when BWFC were in the lower echelons of the football heirachy. Forget about about Anfield, St James Park, teams like Villa and Spurs, think more of Leyton Orient, Wrexham, Carlisle and then you’ll get the idea.

I have managed to get to Wembley on a number of occasions – play’offs, League Cup Final against Liverpool and the games we have had at Millennium Stadium. These are, of course, fantastic occasions and the memories will live with me till I drop.

Just out of interest, I’ll post a few details of some of our trips away, mainly for the benefit of the lads I travelled with!

I was just thinking the other day about the horrible trip to Carlisle. Basically we abandoned the M6 on the official supporters coach due to major tailbacks and took a scenic route through the Forest of Bowland. This was all very nice for about five minutes but once you seen one tree you’ve seen them all. We eventually got back onto to motorway with no hope of catching the start of the match. One poor young lad ( about 7 ) needed to pee badly and because we were late no-one would allow the coach to stop so he was held by his belt out of the coach font door whilst it was moving and ordered to pee with the scenery flying past at 50mph! Probably ended up with more than just a pee to think about maybe skidmarks as well!

Well – its all over now but a memorable trip – match was poor to be honest but of course the last couple of minutes gave us something to shout about.
Great trip – thanks to Andy, Phil and Alf for their distinguished company. Well done to all travelling fans – i think all behaved even tho some will be nursing one or two falling over injuries!
